A lot of publicity was given in the local Winona, Minnesota press to First Generation: Countdown to College, a program in which recent 2010 Catalyst graduates participated. This is one way Catalyst demonstrates its commitment to preparing young boys and girls, young men and women for higher education. First Generation: Countdown to College a program initiated by St. Mary's University of Minnesota and Catalyst Board member, Bro. Ed Siderewicz, included some 2010 graduates of the Catalyst Schools. The program is designed as a college boot camp that prepares 100 students from the time they graduate elementary school till their high school graduation for successful graduation from college. This year was the first time the program was offered and 25 students were invited to participate. Each year an additional 25 students will join the program till the 100 student capacity is reached. Catalyst is a college preperatory charter elementary school. This initiative is a wonderful opportunity for Catalyst graduates.

Catalyst graduates from both the Howland Charter and the Circle Rock Charter are participating in the First Generation, Countdown to College Program initiated by St. Mary's University of Minnesota and the Catalyst Schools' board member, Ed Siderewicz. This four year program engages Catalyst graduates every summer between eighth grade graduation and their graduation from high school. It promises to have participating students ready for any college they choose.
