THE CATALYST SCHOOLS’ EIGHTH GRADE GRADUATES ATTEND COLLEGE BEFORE HIGH SCHOOL
Recent graduates of both the Catalyst Schools—Howland Charter and the Catalyst Schools—Circle Rock Charter were selected as participants in the First Generation—Countdown to College Program initiated by St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and developed by Catalyst board member Ed Siderewicz.
Student participants are accompanied by their eighth grade teachers and for the next four summers while they are in high school, these students will take college courses, participate in college orientation activities and build a network of first generation college bound students from across the country. These new friends will be part of their support network as they move through high school and choose a college or university to attend upon high school graduation.
The Catalyst Schools is a college-prep K—8 elementary school. In addition to rigorous academics and a graduate support program, this is one additional program that makes going to college a reality.
