Gordon Hannon was named CEO of the Catalyst Schools in August 2009. He was raised on the South Side of Chicago, earned a BA in biology and secondary education from St Mary’s University of Minnesota, and began his career teaching high school science in San Diego. He is co-founder and former teacher, principal, and administrator of the San Miguel Schools in Chicago, where he earned recognition as a “Distinguished Lasallian Educator.”
Gordon’s experience includes teaching multiple subjects in grades five through college, as well as teaching and living in the West Indies and Africa. He has completed graduate education at the University of Montana, DePaul University, Catholic Theological Union, and, most recently, Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.

Maggie Nass was a founding member of the Catalyst Schools design team and was active in bringing Catalyst Schools to fruition. Currently, Maggie serves Catalyst as the chief administrative officer, overseeing human resources, finance, and administrative functions at Catalyst.
Maggie holds a BA in geography and urban studies from Temple University, a master’s of science in public service management from DePaul University, and a certificate in nonprofit management from the Center for Nonprofit Management at Kellogg.

Gary Wood is originally from downstate Illinois. He has lived in both England and Israel. The bulk of his career has been in commercial real estate and philanthropy. He was vice president and general manager for the Chicago properties of the Lurie Company with responsibility for property management, construction, and operations. He also continues to serve as a trustee of the San Francisco-based Louis R. Lurie Foundation. Gary has worked with numerous nonprofits in Chicago and San Francisco.
Gary has launched his second career with the Catalyst Schools, bringing his experience and expertise in business and nonprofits to charter schools.
Some key life activities have been advising an urban forest program that planted over 500,000 trees in Chicago; co-creating an energy efficiency education program to promote no-cost and low-cost energy solutions for 14,000 professionals nationwide; and representing the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust in negotiations with University of Chicago to restore, preserve, and operate the Robie House as museum.
Gary received his bachelor’s of urban planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his master’s of social science in local government administration from the University of Birmingham, England. He is a licensed real estate broker in Illinois and is a life member of the Building Owners and Managers Association International.

Michael began his career in education as a high school teacher in Omaha, Nebraska. Since then he has held a variety of positions in the field of education, including counselor in an alternative high school, adult educator, consultant, group facilitator, and administrator of schools and related not-for-profit organizations. Michael was one of the founders of Catalyst and has been involved in the Catalyst Schools since 2005.
Michael has a BA from Christian Brothers College in Memphis, a master's in education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, and a master's in pastoral studies from Xavier University in New Orleans. He has also completed doctoral work in spirituality. In addition, he has a certificate in nonprofit management from the Center for Nonprofit Management at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, in Chicago.

Vice President
David is a dynamic leader and skilled executive with a track record for successfully mobilizing the energy of disparate constituencies around strategic goals and marshaling the resources required to transform aspirations into concrete results. David has managed complex organizations where continuous success in revenue generation and focused allocation of scarce resources are critical to realization of strategic objectives and commitment of all stakeholders. David brings a wealth of experience and significant analytical thinking to his role as Director of Institutional Advancement.
David has experience leading a variety of communities for the Archdiocese of Chicago where he also served as the Director of the Office of Research and Planning, Director of the Chicago Regional Office of the American Cancer Society, and Consultant with the Hopewell Group of New York and Chicago.
David has a BA in psychology from Loyola University, a MDiv from St. Mary's of the Lake University, and a MA in Counseling and Psychology from Loyola University.

Terry Toth is a co-founder of Promus Capital, a multi-family office serving the investment and philanthropic needs of a select group of high net worth families. Terry co-founded Promus Capital in July 2008.
Prior to this, Terry spent 27 years in the asset management industry at both Northern Trust Company and Bankers Trust Company in New York City, where, most recently, he was president of Northern Trust Global Investments, which was the twelfth largest asset management firm in the world with assets under management at that time of over $750 billion. Terry was also a member of Northern Trust’s management committee.
Terry is currently an independent director of the Nuveen Mutual Fund Board and an independent director for Legal and General Investment Management America. Terry also serves as chairman of the board of the Catalyst Schools, a trustee of the Goodman Theatre, a director of Chicago Fellowship, and a member of the University of Illinois Leadership Council. Terry has a BS from the University of Illinois, an MBA from New York University, and attended the CEO Perspectives Program at Northwestern University.

Amy Soudan has been actively involved on Chicago’s West Side Austin community since 1986. She became involved with Circle Urban Ministries and Rock of Our Salvation Evangelical Free Church first as a tutor and then as a community resident when she moved there in 1989. Since 1986 she has been mentoring children through sports, music, and especially education. She is a civil engineer by training and has brought her engineering skills to the service of the community. She is committed to the renewal of the Austin community and to the success of its youth.
Amy worked as a civil engineer from 1984 through 1999, serving first at McDonough Associates and then at Stanley Consultants, both in Chicago. She served as department head and senior civil engineer with Stanley Consultants. She is currently an independent engineering consultant. She recently completed the first phase of work for the Rock of Our Salvation Evangelical Free Church as project coordinator for a $7.5 million renovation project that is changing the face of the local community.
She earned a B.S. from Cornell University, New York. She also studied politics at the University of Bergen, Norway. Her Illinois Registered Professional Engineer License remains current.

Joycelynn Stone is a certified public accountant and has been involved in accounting and finance consulting throughout her career. She began with Ernst and Young where she gained experience in small business support as well as project management and delivery. She built her resume through service at McDonald’s Corporation, where she worked in strategic management and operations technology. At CSC Strategic Consulting, Joycelynn was a senior consultant providing expertise in vision development, business case development, business systems strategic planning, operating model implementation, and operations productivity analysis. Currently, she owns her own firm, J. Stone & Associates LLC, which provides a full range of accounting, finance, and consulting services.
Joycelynn earned a B.S. from Purdue University. She was awarded a master’s degree in management from Northwestern University-Kellogg School of Management. She obtained a certified public accountant’s license in 1992.

Mr. Zednik's career began in data processing with Illinois Bell Telephone where in the early he was manager in the data processing department. At Montgomery Ward, he was responsible for the data communications portion of the first major
implementation of electronic cash registers, UBS scanning, and in-store credit approval. He then became an independent trader in Chicago. Following his experience as a trader, Mr. Zednik became CEO of LakeShore Trading, LLC and Prescient Ridge Fund, LLC. He is a former member of the Chicago Board of
Trade, Chicago Board of Options, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Eurex, and National Futures
Association. Mr. Zednik brings a depth of experience in the world of finance and management.
He received his BA from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Susan Wallace
Ms. Wallace is a senior executive with extensive management experience in financial functions,
system implementations and business process improvements. Her areas of expertise include
integrating strategic and financial plans, creative financing, leveraging technology and personnel
development. Ms. Wallace brings depth and skill to her service as board member. She began her career with Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) in Chicago. From Peat Marwick Mitchell she moved to MSL Industries in Naperville and Lincolnwood, Illinois. She then served DePaul University as Assistant Controller, Director of Treasury Services, Controller and finally as Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer. After serving DePaul, Ms Wallace was chief
Financial Officer for the Poetry Foundation and then served the Illinois Institute of Technology
as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. She brings a history of service with educational
institutions. Ms. Wallace also serves the Chicago community in other ways. She is Treasurer of
Josephinum Academy and was Treasurer of the Union League Club of Chicago. She is currently a Trustee of the Union League Club Boys and Girls Club. She was also a trustee of the Union League Club. She served on the DePaul University Finance Department Advisory Board and as a Board member for the Central Association of College and University Business
Officers.
Ms. Wallace received a B.A. from Bradley University.
Her M.B.A. was awarded by DePaul University.
She has a Certified Public Accountant License.
Edmund Siderewicz
Brother Edmund Siderewicz has been involved in education and service to youth all of his adult life. He began as a teacher in 1979 at Roncalli High School, Omaha Nebraska. From there, he moved to Kansas City Missouri where he taught at O’Hara High School.
Following service in Kansas City, Brother Ed moved to Central America where he spent nine years serving youth and communities in rural communities (Santa Maria, Visitacion) as well as the city of El Estor and Guatemala City. Upon his return to the United States, Brother Ed was co-founder of the San Miguel Schools, Chicago. At San Miguel he served as founder, teacher,
community organizer and principal before he became the first President. Currently, Brother Ed is creating the Bridge program with St. Mary’s University, Winona, Minnesota. This program is designed to provide an opportunity for graduates of the San Miguel and Catalyst Schools for a university education.
Brother Siderewicz received his BA from Christian Brothers College.
He was awarded an M.Ed from the University of Minnesota.
A second M.A. was received through Rosary College in Chicago.

Mr. Mooney has spent his career serving youth. He was Chief Executive Officer of the Inner-City Teaching Corps from 1996 – 2002. Prior to becoming the Chief Executive Officer, he served as a Corps member and teacher, the Assistant Director for supervision and community development with thirty volunteer teachers, and then as Chief Operating Officer. This position
gave him the opportunity to develop the innovative Alternative Teacher Certification Program, the first of its type in the State of Illinois. From 1999 – 2001, he served as Vice President for 21st Century Urban Schools where he participated in the design and launch of a new charter school. Mr. Mooney currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Gary Comer Youth Center in Chicago. He also serves as Board member for the Catholic Network of Volunteer Service in Washington D.C. and as an advisor to the Big Shoulders Fund Patron’s Board.
Mr. Mooney is a marathon runner and involved with his church.
Mr. Mooney received a B.A. from Villanova University, Villanova, PA.
He was awarded a M.B.A. from Northwestern University.
Rick Hurd
Rick Hurd is President and Chief Investment Officer of Strategic Capital Partners, LLC. Rick’s primary responsibilities at SCP include overseeing the acquisition team, setting investment strategy, lender relationships and fund raising. Prior to founding SCP, Rick was a Managing Director in GE Real Estate’s North American Equity Group. From 1996 to 2005, Rick invested over $800 million of equity in various real estate transactions with a total capitalization of approximately $2 billion. From 1993 to 1996, Rick was responsible for the private placement of debt securities and the acquisition of nonperforming loans. Rick joined GE Real Estate in 1988 and spent the next five years in London establishing GE Real Estate’s presence in Europe.
Rick has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Accounting from Ohio Wesleyan University and
received his M.B.A. from Drexel University.
Mike Kelly
Mr. Kelly grew up in Iowa City, IA, the son of an Allis Chalmers Dealer. He served in the military and spent two years in Stuttgart, Germany. He began is career in banking when he joined Northwest Bancorp (later Norwest and now Wells Fargo) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He went on to serve at 3rd Northwestern National Bank as a commercial loan officer followed by service at Northwestern National Bank in Chicago where he was Vice President/Division Head of Credit
for Correspondent Banking. In 1981, Mr. Kelly assembled an investor group to acquire the First
Bank of Oak Park.
Mr. Kelly has made his home in Chicago and has been a significant ally to community groups
and neighborhood organizations on Chicago’s West Side. He has been committed to the people of the Austin community and has assisted many organizations pursue their mission of community renewal.
Mr. Kelly received his undergraduate degree from Creighton University, Omaha. His M.B.A.
was also awarded by Creighton University, Omaha.
Heather Headley
Heather Headley began her Broadway career originating the role of Nala in Disney’s mega-hit
musical, The Lion King. Ms Headley went on to play the title role in Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, for which the garnered a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She also received the Drama Desk Award, Chicago’s Jeff Award, and various other awards for her performance. Ms. Headley, a Northwestern alumna, has released three critically acclaimed albums for which she has received four Grammy nominations. Her most recent album, Audience of One, received a
2010 Grammy Award.
Jim Mendelson
As Managing Director, North America Lending and investing, Mr. Mendelson is responsible for the management and administration of GE Real Estate’s North and Latin American equity investments. Prior to this, Mr. Mendelson was responsible for GE Real Estate’s investment activities in the golf and manufactured housing industries as well as its portfolio and asset management for Heller Financial. Previous to his employment at Heller, Mr. Mendelson was a Senior Vice President at the Balcor Company, a subsidiary of American Express, responsible for property sales and workouts. Mr. Mendelson graduated in 1990 with an MBA from the University of Chicago and received a BS in Business Administration from the University of Missouri in 1984.

Steven Brown joined Code Hennessy & Simmons, a Chicago-based private equity firm, in 1994. He was promoted to partner in 2003 and currently co-heads the firm’s investing activities within the consumer products arena.
Steven also serves and has served on numerous other boards of directors and holds leadership roles in his church and other community organizations. He was recently elected to the board of the Illinois Policy Institute, a nonpartisan research organization dedicated to supporting free market principles in the state of Illinois. In addition, he works with a start-up organization called Safe Families, an alternative child welfare model being implemented in many urban communities.
Steven holds a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University.
Craig Culbertson
Craig Culbertson is the managing partner of McGuire Woods law firm’s Chicago office and a member of the firm’s six-member executive committee. He regularly represents companies, banks, funds, boards of directors, and special committees in a variety of corporate/financing transactions and matters including corporate governance, finance, international relations, mergers, and acquisitions. He was recently named by Crain’s Chicago Business as a “Who’s Who in the Chicago Business Community.”
Craig received a B.A. from Davidson College, North Carolina, a J.D. from Loyola University, Chicago, and completed Northwestern University-Kellogg School of Management, Advanced Leadership program.
