The Catalyst Schools and the Chicago Police Department DARE to be GREAT

Howland Charter
Feb 1, 2010

The Catalyst Schools—Howland Charter has formed a partnership with the Chicago Police Department (CPD) District 10, to bring DARE and GREAT two great programs to the school that support efforts to form solid values in the students.

DARE, or the Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is an anti-drug program offered to every fifth-grade student.

GREAT, or Gang Resistance Education And Training, is a gang awareness program.

Both programs support the values of respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, and citizenship that are being taught and modeled in the Catalyst Schools. CPD comes to Howland Charter every Tuesday to conduct the DARE program for all fifth graders and every Thursday to bring the GREAT program to all sixth graders.
