Parent Pep Rally Helps Prep Students for the ISAT and STEP Exams

Howland Charter
Mar 3, 2010

The Catalyst Schools—Howland Charter enjoyed great participation by parents in the family pep rally prior to administration of the ISAT and STEP exams. The gathering was designed to elicit the support of parents and guardians as their children began this important testing.

The night began with a Soul Food feast catered by one of the teachers (who also happens to be a great cook) at our sister school, Circle Rock Charter. Artists, crafters, and social service agencies in the community displayed their creations and offered their services before and after the dinner.

Following dinner, everyone in attendance moved to the auditorium for song, dance, and other performances by the children. Great motivational speeches inspired everyone to continue participating and to be encouraged for the testing. Parents were also encouraged to make sure their children had a solid night’s sleep prior to each testing day and to either have a good breakfast at home or at school. The enthusiasm mounted until the gospel choir got people to their feet with cheers, applause, and communal song.
